Virus alters academic calendar

First-year training in technical training institutions and specialized distance training courses will begin in December, 2-4 months later than usual, however, the institutions and regulators are working to reinforce studying hours to assist students to mitigate the covid-related setback. “Due to extended emergent situations and requests from numerous states and ongoing admission process of llTs and NITs, the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) has extended the final date of admission to first-year engineering courses to 30 November. Accordingly, the final date of graduation of instructions of the first year is 1 December,” the technical training regulator wrote to institutions. At technical schools, fresh students normally join in July; however, the coronavirus pandemic delayed admission tests such as Joint Entrance Examination (JEE), calling for a delayed begin to admissions.
