The state government is learned to have informally authorized universities to apply for approval of Open and Distance Learning (ODL) courses from the UGC this year. This, after the High Court stayed a clause withinside the Open University Ordinance, that had prohibited state universities from providing such courses.
The new improvement comes as a remedy to almost 1.5 lakh college students who’re set to gain admission to courses in distance training mode in addition to signing up for personal registration in-state universities this year. Even though Open University has been released with plenty of fanfare, the government has now realized it might take many months for the newly set-up varsity to provide you with its personal courses.
Meanwhile, Kerala University has already acquired approval from the UGC for accomplishing ODL guides and has been allowed to conduct admissions for the continuing June 2020 session itself. Kerala University will take a choice on Thursday on whether or not to apply to the UGC for sanction of ODL courses for the January 2021 session as well, at the strains of Calicut University.
